Network bandwidth test tool questions, answered
Benchmarking basics
What is a network bandwidth test tool?
A network bandwidth test tool measures how much data flows between two machines per second, while latency is the round-trip time of a small message. Use it only between machines you own, or between your PC and a server you are allowed to test, and keep the traffic small and short. If you compare rented machines, check each provider's terms for testing first, then benchmark VPS providers on identical plans.
Can ping serve as a network latency test tool?
Yes, for a first check. The command ping -n 20 followed by your own router or server address prints the round-trip times. Ping shows latency, not bandwidth, so run it more than once and compare the saved files before you draw a conclusion.
How do I benchmark my SSD?
The test file must be larger than your RAM or cache, otherwise you measure the cache. Test sequential and random speed as separate numbers, repeat the run at least 5 times, report the median and delete the test file afterwards. Never test a drive that holds the only copy of important data.
How many runs make a fair comparison?
One warm-up run that you do not count, then at least 5 timed runs with the same program version, input and power plan, reported as the median. VPS benchmark test results count only for the plan, the time and the settings you recorded.
Using BenchQuorum
Is benchmarkgo.com the official BenchQuorum website?
Yes. benchmarkgo.com is the official BenchQuorum website, and the installer on the download page is the original build, so you can compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published manifest. Questions can go through the Send feedback button inside the installed app.
Are the results always right?
No. The agent reports only numbers that were measured, but a script can contain a mistake, a setting can differ between runs, and a hot CPU can slow a long test. Check every result and every diff yourself, and repeat the run before you rely on it.
Does BenchQuorum change my files without asking?
The approval mode decides. In Ask first mode nothing changes without your OK, because it pauses before every action that changes something and shows file changes as a diff. Auto-run acts immediately, and Plan only plans and changes nothing. Pick the mode that fits how closely you want to watch.
Can it repeat a benchmark on a schedule?
Yes. Cron runs a prompt on a schedule you set, for example a weekly run that appends one row to results.csv, but the app and the PC must be switched on at that time. Ask first would pause a scheduled run until you approve it, so test the prompt by hand first. Label scheduled rows, because background programs and power settings are not controlled.
Models, privacy and download
Which models can I connect?
Three kinds: a cloud AI provider through a standard API endpoint, a model running locally on your PC, or the built-in model. The Test button checks an endpoint and shows the response time and the context window. Press it before you start.
Does BenchQuorum send my data anywhere?
No telemetry is sent. Chats, working folders and API keys stay on your PC, and prompts go only to the model endpoint you pick. With a local model nothing leaves the machine. A cloud model does receive your prompts, so choose it knowingly.
Why does Windows SmartScreen warn about the installer?
The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn. Compare the SHA-256 checksum with the published manifest first. Only after it matches, choose More info and then Run anyway. The app shows an Update button when a new version is ready.
